One of the most prestigious tournaments of Surat- Diya T20 D-N Cricket Tournament 2018 was played between 27th Mar.’18 to 8th Apr.’18.
Out of the 10 participant teams, the crucial final of this heavily followed tournament was played between Athwa Cricket Club and Manohar Lions on 8th Apr.’18 at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium- Surat.
Manohar Lions won the toss and elected to field. The decision proved terribly wrong for them as they failed to restrict Athwa Cricket Club from scoring well. Batting first, Athwa Cricket Club came up with a strong batting line up with almost all the players contributing significantly for the final score. Major contribution came from Mehfuz Jolly and Karan Trivedi, who made 58 and 40 runs respectively at fast rate. Remaining players too scored well and team ended up scoring 155 runs at the end of 20 overs by losing 5 wickets.
While chasing, Manohar Lions started to fumble from early overs against the strong bowling attack by Athwa Cricket Club. None of the players managed to stand for long on the crease and team bundled up scoring 82 runs in 16 overs. Highest scorer was Hemang Patel with 25 runs. Jay Desai, who bowled a wonderful match winning bowling spell taking 4 wickets in 4 overs giving 17 runs was the main reason behind Manohar Lions’ early collapse. Chetan Patel too bowled remarkably well and scalped 3 wickets in 4 overs damaging the opponent’s batting line up completely.
Athwa Cricket Club won the final with the huge margin of 73 runs against Manohar Lions in Diya T20 D-N Cricket Tournament 2018.
