Allert Cup 2017 was organized by Jain Cricket Club- Madurai between 10th Dec.’17 to 21st Jan.’18.
Out the of 6 participant teams, 2 teams which played the final on 21st Jan.’18 were MSD Club and Madurai Meenakshi.
MSD Club won the toss and elected to bat. Despite starting well, team failed to put up a good score for the final and ended up scoring 94 runs in 20 overs by losing all the wickets. Opening batsman Ashish M was the highest scorer with 21 runs. After his dismissal, wickets fell in quick succession and none of the players managed to score significantly. Outstanding bowling performance of Team Madurai Meenakshi led by Giri, who scalped 4 important wickets in 4 overs was the main reason behind the early collapse of MSD Club.
While chasing, Team Madurai Meenakshi failed to get a good start and faced some early blows in form of opening batsmen Dinesh Rajput and Yashpal Singh. However, Rakesh Singh’s 30 gave team the much need stability. Team had to struggle to reach to the target as they went on losing the wickets at regular intervals and the fight continued till the end. Team Madurai Meenakshi managed to reach at 98 runs in 19 overs after losing 6 wickets. Bowling highlight of the innings was Ashish M from MSD Club, who took 3 wickets in 4 overs by giving only 7 runs which made the target more difficult to defend for Team Madurai Meenakshi.
Team Madurai Meenakshi won the final by 4 wickets against MSD Club in Allert Cup 2017.
Giri from Madurai Meenakshi was awarded as the player of the match.
