South Zone Inter University Men Tournament 2017-18 was organized by Andhra University between 3rd Jan.’18 to 12th Jan.’18 at Vizianagaram.
101 teams from various Universities of South Region participated in this tournament. The final of this most celebrated tournament was held at Raghu Engineering College Cricket Ground, Vizianagaram between MG University and S.R.M.University on 12th Jan.’ 18.
S.R.M University won the toss and elected to field with the aim of restricting the opponent at a low score. However, the decision didn’t go much in their favour as MG University started very well with Anand Krishnan and Abhay Jotin scoring 64 and 33 runs respectively. Team played a very good innings with almost all the players contributing significantly for the final score. Pick of the bowlers was Akash Sumra from S.R. M University, who took 3 wickets in 8 overs. MG University ended up scoring 212 runs at the end of 40 overs after losing all wickets.
While chasing, S.R.M University got a good start with opening batsman M.U.B.Sriram scoring 26 runs in 22 balls with 5 boundaries. Team had a very strong batting line up with all the players adding to the score steadily. However, team failed to score at a required pace against effective bowling of MG University. Sijomin Joseph and Sreehari S Nair bowled exceptionally well as they took 3 wickets each restricting the opponent from scoring freely. Highest scorer was Sumit Jain with 46 runs. Team collapsed scoring 172 runs in 35.3 overs.
MG University won the final of South Zone Inter University Men Tournament 2017-18 by 40 runs against S.R.M University.
Player of the match was Sijomin Joseph from MG University.
