Street20 Cricket: A Revolution in the Making

This tournament showcases Street20 Cricket, a condensed and exciting version of Twenty20 cricket that has been making waves in the world of cricket. Street20 Cricket is designed to break down barriers to participation and make the game accessible to everyone. Played with a tennis ball wrapped in tape, known as a 'Tapeball,' Street20 Cricket eliminates the need for expensive equipment and can be played almost anywhere, making it an all-weather sport.

One unique feature of Street20 Cricket is that each match consists of six players, with an equal number of boys and girls on each side. The games are fast-paced, typically lasting 20 minutes, and offer a dynamic and inclusive experience for all participants.

The Rules of Street20 Cricket

Street20 Cricket follows a set of generic rules to ensure fairness and equal participation:

  • Matches consist of a maximum of 20 legal balls per team or until the batting team is entirely out.
  • All teams must rotate their squads for each game, ensuring that both genders play a full part in the tournament.
  • The length of the pitch is 20 yards, and the outfield measures 30 meters.
  • Plastic stumps, fixed to a base, are used for wickets.

Batting

  • A combination of a boy and a girl must always bat together.
  • Batters cannot be dismissed leg before wicket (LBW).
  • Batters must exchange ends after each over of 4 balls.
  • A batter must retire after reaching 15 runs.
  • The last batter can continue with a running partner until they are out or until 20 legal balls have been bowled.

Bowling

  • All bowling must be "overarm" with a straight arm conforming to the Laws of Cricket.
  • Boys and girls must alternate in bowling an over of 4 balls.
  • All players, except the wicket keeper, must bowl one over of 4 balls. Failure to do so results in runs being added to the batting team's score.
  • Wide and no-ball rules are in place, with runs awarded for such deliveries.

Equipment

  • Bat: Sri Lankan Coconut Willow Bat
  • Ball: Taped Tennis Ball
  • Wicket: Plastic Fixed Base Wicket

Umpiring and Scoring

  • Umpires play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the game, signaling wide balls, no balls, and keeping track of the score.
  • The spirit of the game emphasizes encouragement and positivity, ensuring that every player on the team gets a chance to play.
