12th June, 2021, Jamestown.
Challengers 191/7 in 20 overs (Alex Langham 58, Jordi Henry 45, Ashton Benjamin 3/23) beat Sandy Bay Pirates 147 in 18.2 overs (Brett Isaac 52*, Scott Crowie 4/22, Joey Thomas 3/15) by 44 runs.
It was the day of final and Challengers after winning the toss had no hesitation in electing to bat first. Andrew Yon and Alex Langham came out to open the innings, they started steadily, adding 79 runs for the first wicket, Langham scoring majority of runs. Things were going even stevens until the 13th over, then Jordi Henry came in and changed the things in favour of Challengers. He scored 45 runs off 19 deliveries, hit five maximums and two boundaries in his short innings. From Sandy Bay Pirates' side, Ashton Benjamin was the highest wicket taker with figures of 3/23 after bowling two overs, Ronan Legg also grabbed two wickets in his spell of four overs. At the end of first innings, Challengers set a target of 192 runs for Sandy Bay Pirates.
For the chasing side, David Young and Brett Isaac came out to start the proceedings. They had to score at the rate of 9.5 runs from the outset. Brett kept holding one end as he remained unbeaten on 52 after facing 49 deliveries. He hardly got support from his fellow batsmen, only Brooklyn Fowler was able to show some intent as he contributed 49 runs in just 21 balls. They both had a partnership of 63 runs for the third wicket, but after the fall of Fowler, Sandy Bay Pirates lost all their way, they were bowled out for 147, losing the match by 44 runs. They surrendered to the Challengers' bowlers, specially Scott Crowie and Joey Thomas, they grabbed four and three wickets respectively. It was a game of thrill and nerves, where Challengers came better on Sandy Bay Pirates.
After an exciting tournament, let's throw some light on statistics, Andrew Yon made 261 runs in three innings while Joey Thomas picked up six wickets at an astonishing economy of 3.86.
So that was it from our side.
