Aziz Damani Scorpions 104/5 in 15.3 overs (Suleman Sharif 59, Wasim Butt 14, Emmanuel Issaneez 3/28) beat The Royal Varsani 108/5 in 20 overs (Fred Acelam 28*, Brian Masaba 2/23, Lawrence Ssempija 1/8) by 23 runs through D/L method.
Chasing a small target of 109 runs, Scorpions needed a safe start and then they would have accelerated. But Varsani Issaneez had other plans as he struck with a double breakthrough and dismissed the opening duo of Scorpions. Then Sharif batted really well to carry forward the innings and also make sure Scorpions did not lose any more wickets. He and Ssempija added 34 runs for the third wicket and took Scorpions in a safe position, though the later just contributed four runs for his side but he made sure they not lose wickets. At the end of innings rain interrupted the play and Scorpions were already 23 runs ahead of their par score in 15.3 overs. They won the match with the beauitifully constructed innings of Sharif who remained unbeaten on 59(4*3,5*6). Issaneez picked up 3 wickets against 28 runs while Ssempija got 2 for 33.
After losing the toss, The Royal Varsani came to bat first. Ssesazi and Otwani started very slowly as they could just add 32 runs in about 9 overs, courtesy some disciplined bowling from Bukenya and Riyaz. In fact, Varsani batsmen never looked settled in the whole innings, they fail to capitalize on balls they played and could add just 108 runs in their 20 overs. Barring the innings of Acelam who made 28 with a strike rate 200, no one could make the most of it. Masaba took a couple of wickets with 2/23 while Bukenya and Ssempija scalped a wicket each to their name.
The second match of the day was abandoned due to bad weather.
After eight matches, Aziz Damani Scorpions are in the most comforable position with four wins out of five games, on the other hand, Mamba Challengers are still struggling to open their account. The Royal Varsani have won three out of their six contests.
