CG Jaguars 108/9 in 20 overs (Puneet 39, Gurpreet 18, Ram Niwas 3/14) lost to Mighty Maverics 113/3 in 15.3 overs (Deepak 39, Ram Niwas 38, Rohit 1/21) by 7 wickets
The final of the 2019 season of DLF CG tournament was played between CG Jaguars and Mighty Maverics at the DI Khan ground, New Delhi. The tennis ball tournament was contested between 6 teams and was played on a league cum knockout basis. While Mighty Mavericks won all their games and were ranked at the top of the table post the conclusion of the league stage, Jaguars lost their only game against? Guess whom? Yeah right, The Mavericks.
Without a doubt, Mavericks were a different team throughout the tournament. Not many teams could challenge them at any stage of the tournament. So the Jaguars had a task to hunt the hunters. They won the toss and elected to bat first. In no time, Mavericks did what they were expected to do. The Jaguars lost their top five for just 12. The final was moving ahead quickly until Puneet and Gurpreet decided to put on some fight.
The pair of Gurpreet and Puneet added 38 for the sixth wicket. It might not sound too big but it was, ask the Jaguars. Another 30 runs between Akshay and Puneet meant Jaguars were all set to go pass 100 but that was not enough. Puneet finished with 39 off 50 deliveries which led his team to 108 In their quota of 20 overs. Ram Niwas finished with the figures of 3/14 while Pravesh chipped in with 2 wickets for 11.
Mavericks did not get the kind of a start they were after. They lost Umesh in the very first over for 5. Pravesh could not last long and soon Mavericks were two down for 28. Although it was not a matter of concern to them as they were not chasing a huge total. Deepak and Ram Niwas added 53 for the third wicket and it was this partnership that blew away the opposition. Anant managed to nip out Deepak for 39 in the 13th over but that was of no use. Kushagra (14) along with Ram Niwas led the team past the target with over 4 overs still in the bag. Ram finished with 38 off 34 deliveries. Rohit and Sri Krishna shared 1 wicket each for the Jaguars.
