Bombay Interiors 166/13 in 26 overs (Shiv 35, Ankush 24, Gagan 3/8) lost to Sai Footwear & Bhuvi XIV 172/5 in 19.1 (Nasib 59, Sushant 42, Shiv 2/1) by 8 wickets

The Sanjivini hospital Cup 2019 concluded with Sai Footwear & Bhuvi XIV overpowering the Bombay Interiors in the finals at the 1010 Sports Club Shakti Vihar, Phase-4. 18 teams participated in the tournament where we had playing XIV instead of playing XI. Yep, you heard it right. We had 14 players out on the field instead of 11.

Bombay interiors found themselves in immediate trouble as they lost both the openers for a duck after electing to bat first. But the worst was yet to come for them. By the end of sixth over they lost half of their side for just sixteen and the game was moving ahead pretty quickly. Amanjot and Arun tried to rescue the inning but the efforts went in vain. A miscommunication resulted in Amanjot’s inning being cut short.

The advantage of having 14 batsmen available to bat is that you can actually recover from a collapse. The BI inning got a life thanks to some inspiring performance from Shiv (35) and Gurbaj (24). Ankush and Navi entertained the crowd late in the inning with some nasty blows with Ankush being the aggressor as he smashed four balls out of the park. His 24 came off just five balls. The cameos ensured a decent score on the board for them to defend in the first inning.

The chase began with some early blows to the SF&BXIV as they lost Vishal Goyal to an injury. The trio of Kishor, Abhishek and Naveen together could add only 14 runs between them which left the team effectively four down for 16 in the third over. Just when the spectators felt like the memories of the first inning being replayed, Sushant along with Janish pulled the momentum back with a 49 run partnership. Narinder foxed Janish but only after some destruction with the bat. The joy didn’t last long for the Bombay Interiors as Nasib entered the show and he started where Janish left.

The brilliance of both Nasib and Naridnder took the game away from the Bombay interiors. The BI bowlers had no answers to the destructive approach of both these stylish players. The first inning hero, Shive Garg removed Sushant and Mohit on two consecutive balls in the 19th over but it was too late. The celebration began as Nasib smoked one over the long on, the dugout didn’t even looked at the ball. It’s still up in the orbits.
