Guwahati (ACA) 221/10 in 66.5 overs ( Rahul 57, Riyan 41, Ranjeet 4/59) & 36/3 in 14 overs (Hrishikesh 16, Rishav 14, Debashish 1/6) drew with NFRSA (ACA) 147/10 in 35.5 overs (S.S.Roy 43, Krishna 21, Abu Nechim 3/35)

The 2019 season of Nuruddin Ahmed inter district cricket tournament concluded with Guwahati edging out NFRSA in the finals via first inning lead. The month long tournament saw some of the brightest talents from across the state of Assam compete in the inter district league in order to make their claims for the Assam state team for the upcoming season.

Both the finalists lashed with the guns with national and international experience meant the expectations were high from the spectators. Guwahati were bundled out for 221 on the second day as only 44 overs were possible on the day 1. They decided to bat first after winning the toss and most of their batsmen got starts but none could go on to build a big score. Seven of their top eight batsmen went past 15 but only one could convert it into a fifty with Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan Royals superstar compiling a smooth 41.

The second inning started with two of Guwahati’s high profile players Abu Nechim and Riyan Parag shattering the NFRSA top order in no time. While Nechim got rid of Parvez and Sarupam, Riyan removed Niraj Tiwari for a duck. While the wickets were tumbling down on the other end, Shib Shankar Roy remained positive and kept on playing his strokes on the other end. His resistance came to an end in the 26th over and a collapse followed. A couple of twenties from the tail enders could only decrease the margin of first inning lead for the NFRSA and you must say that it was not enough.

With the result of the game almost already decided, Guwahati tweaked their batting lineup in the second inning with only handful of overs to play. While Riyan Parag failed to impress as an opener, Rishav das blocked rest of the overs along with Hrishikesh. Although NFRSA nipped out a couple of wickets a few minutes prior to the closure, there was no chance of a magic for them anymore after their disappointing first inning.
