Sun Rise Chagaon 211/2 in 15 overs (Virender 147, Lucky 34,Sinu 2/26) defeated WILLSS XI 136/7 in 15 overs (Asish 36, CM 27,Lucky 2/18) by 75 runs.

Sun Rise Chagaon put the seal on the most dominant final in the WCC history securing the title for 2019 season thanks to Virender’s 147 off 51 with the help of 17 massive sixes and 10 fours. Unfortunately the spectators present to witness the game did not get the kind of a final they deserved after almost a month of some thrilling cricketing action.

Wills won the toss and invited SRC to bat first. Both the openers, Virender and Lucky dominated the opposition from the beginning. When Asish completed his first over with some of his deliveries missing the edges, that remained the only over where there were three dot balls in a row. In fact that was the only over where anything less than 8 runs were scored.

Although the SRC openers got some help as the WILLSS XI gave away some extra runs initially, the carnage began in the fourth over when Virender smashed Amit for 18 runs off an over with two sixes and a four. None of the WILLSS XI bowlers could control the run flow as the opening partnership piled on 102 in just 8 overs. Although Sinu managed to dismiss a couple of SRC batsmen, Virender kept slaughtering them on the other side. Shashi joined the fun in the later stages with his 8 ball 14. The misery of WILLSS bowlers ended with Virender smashing five sixes in row off last five balls of the inning. Apart from Asish, none of the WILLSS XI bowlers could manage an economy of less than 12 with four of them going for 15 or more per over.

If you followed the tournament on cricheros, you probably know that a target of 212 was far too many, at least for the chasing team. Leave alone 200, the tournament failed to witness a target of even 100 being chased down in the second inning.  97 was the highest total, chased twice in the tournament and this fact itself reveals how tough the task was for the WILLSS XI already.

Chasing a target as big as this, you need your top guns to fire. But unfortunately the WILLSS XI lost their leading scorer of the tournament Raj Deepak for a duck in the very first over. Swinging wild from the ball one is the only option when you are chasing at over 14 right? Bhim Prakash and Naveen resisted for a while with a couple of big overs but the joy was short lived for them. The WILLSS XI top order was back in the hut in the first six overs and they were struggling at 69 for 6 in 6.1 overs. A 60 run partnership between C.M and Asish could only delay the inevitable defeat. Asish smashed the last ball of fifteenth over into the orbit but that was not enough to score 81 of the last ball. The celebration began in the SRC dugout even before the ball could land.

Brandy Girls Nasang VS Willss Woman

Brandy Girls Nasang 76/4 in 10 overs (Vijju 39, Aruna 9, Nikita 1/9) defeated Willss Woman 49/6 in 10 overs (Sakshi 23, Sneh 7, Vishakha 2/5) by 27 runs

The twenty first June must have been a day full of disappointments for the Willss fans. They endured the sight of their men team getting thrashed all over the park by Virender in the morning as their team fell short by a massive 74 runs, they still had some hopes left for the evening as their women team made it to the finals as well.

The second final of the day was played between Brandy Girls Nasang and Willss Woman. Brandy Girls won the toss and elected to bat first. The skipper, Vijju Boris led the charge for them as the girls from Willss failed to get their line right since ball one. While Vijju kept smashing the bowler all across the park, she got some support from the other batswomen to move along at a healthy rate. They accumulated 76 in their 10 overs with Vijju doing most of the scoring followed by the extras (21).

A target of 77 meant we had the game on, at least until the Willss Woman openers entered the field. They scored a total in excess of 90 in the pre quarter finals and they must have believed that they can chase it down. But unfortunately their chase never took off. Although Sakshi showed some promise, she was too slow with her 23 which came off 32 balls. None of the other Willss batswomen could enter the double digit score and unlike their bowlers, the opposition were too disciplined to throw away runs in the form of extras. During the course of their inning, it never looked like that they were going to chase it down and in the end; they fell short by 27 runs. The Willss fans lost the chance to celebrate a title twice in a day, in fact within 8 hours.
