Econ Riders 82/10 in 10.4 overs (Snehashis 20, Nagraj 13, Mani 2/14) lost to White Walkers 87/8 in 11.4 overs (Nikhil 18, Guru 12, Siddhartha 3/24) by 2 wickets
The Tata Sky Cricket Cup 2019 concluded at Vydehi Cricket ground, Bangalore. The final was contested between two of the most consistent teams of the tournament, Econ Riders and White Walkers. The tournament finished exactly in the fashion it began on 17th June .
The two heavyweights of the tournament were up against each other for a rematch. A battle for the title was about to began where Econ Riders were looking to avenge their defeat in the league game. That was the first game of the tournament, and now the two teams were out there to finish it.
An afternoon start did not deter the White walker and they chose to field first after winning the toss. In a twelve over game, you can’t probably expect big partnerships and when it’s a Tennis ball tournament, the big hit’s followed by a wicket is a common sight. Econ Riders got a flying start as they piled on 32 runs in the powerplays but the runs came at a cost of two wickets. Yashwant removed Nagraj and Rajesh off the first and the last ball of the seventh over to bog down the Riders inning. The misery continued as they lost another two wickets soon to be left shattered at 39 for 6. Their inning was rescued by the number ten Snehasish (20 off 11, 1*4, 2*6) and it was his inning which ensured a competitive first inning total of 82.
The White Walkers chased down 74 in ten overs just five days ago against the same opposition. Their task was something they have achieved before. The chase began with a first ball wicket for Nagraj as Arkadeep smashed one straight to extra cover’s hand. With a 32 run partnership, Rahul and Nikhil were pushing the Raiders out of competition but Siddhartha came in fifth over and removed Nikhil to ensure a fightback.
The chase in the second inning was progressing steadily despite a wicket or two here and there. There were moments of desperation when Walkers lost three wickets in the space of six balls but the number eight Venkatesh finished it off in style as he launched one over med wicket. Walkers were home with three balls remaining.
