PMP Group U-14 142/10 in 36.2 overs (Shankar 57, Raj 26, Mhd.Akram 4/16) defeated RKCA 87/10 in 21.1 overs (Saahil 18, Swaraj 11, Om 5/27) by 55 runs
A tournament organized by Vision Cricket Academy for emerging stars of the city, The Under-14 Vision trophy attracted a lot of attention this summer. The players like Vaibhav Agam, Om Bhabad, Krish Shahapurkar and Shahil Kad lit up the tournament with their brilliance.
The PMP Group and RKCA topped the points table in the league phase and graduated to the finals via impressive victories in the semi final.
So what’s the greatest pleasure in sports? Probably winning a war against an opposition you lost the battle to and even better, if the opposition are the favorites to lift the cup. While RKCA topped the table unopposed, PMP Group were ranked second. Both the teams absolutely destroyed the opposition to enter the final.
The final, being a rematch between these two teams created a decent hype and why not. Just ten days ago, RKCA absolutely thrashed the PMG group in the league phase by 10 wickets. Both the teams had 4 of their players leading both the batting and the bowling charts. PMP Group won the toss and decided that they will better their efforts from the league game in the first inning.
PMG Group recovered after a shaky start. They put on a 48 run partnership after losing two early wickets in the powerplays but they needed a better effort. Shankar tried to build the inning with his steady 57 off 86 but he got no partners on the other end. After Shankar’s departure, Raj tried to stabilize the inning with his cameo but lower order had no answers to Mohammad Akram’s spin and they were bundled out for 142.
During the league phase of the tournament, RKCA were on a roll. They chased down targets for fun, in fact they lost only six wickets during the league phase. They chased most of their targets while completely dominating the opposition and it was evident with their Net run rate. With a batting lineup of this caliber, 142 was a target too easy for RKCA but the game of Cricket is unpredictable. Who thought Pakistan could beat India in the Champions Trophy finals 2017? The scenario was pretty much same here.
RKCA got off to a start pretty similar to their opposition. They lost two quick wickets with less than thirty on board and then had a partnership which looked like recovering the game for them but once Sahil got out in the tenth over the collapse began. None of the middle order could face the heat from Om Bhabad as they collapsed from 52/2 to 87 all out.
