Held at KORM college ground- Kadapa, it was an interesting match between two promising teams - Nellore U-16 and Visakhapatnam U-16 of ACA U-16 Inter district tournament 2017
Visakhapatanam U-16 chose to field first after winning the toss with the aim to restrict the opponent team at a low score. Despite losing their wickets at regular intervals, Nellore U-16 tried to add to the score steadily. However, wonderful bowling by G. Srikar Sai Reddy and V. Bhargav from Visakhapatanm U-16, who took 5 and 4 wickets respectively managed to restrict Nellore U-16 at the score of 180 runs in their first innings.
While replying, though Vishakhapatanam U-16 had some early jitters, K.Nitish Kumar Reddy’s steady 116 runs helped team to close their innings at 312 runs. Bowling highlight of the innings was P. Ajit Babu from Nellore U-16, who took 4 important wickets by giving only 65 runs with 6 maiden overs.
Nellore U-16 was trailing by 140 runs in their second innings. Though they tried to put up their best efforts, none of the players managed to stand against attacking bowling of B. Yoga Nikhileshwar. He took 8 wickets by giving only 45 runs, which shattered the batting line up of Nellore U-16 completely. The team collapsed at the score of 203 runs at the end of 2nd innings.
Despite the poor start, Visakhapatanam U-16 was in a strong position due to their lead from the 1st innings. It was an extremely easy target for them to achieve. The team scored 73 runs in just 25.5 overs by losing 5 wickets.
Visakhapatanam U-16 defeated Nellore U-16 by 5 wickets in their first match.
