The All India AAI Inter-Zonal Cricket Tournament 2018 was organized between 24th Sep.’18 to 28th Sep.’18 at Chennai.
Out of the 6 participant teams, the crucial final of this much celebrated tournament was played between Northern Region and Western Region on 28th Sep.’18 at Marina Cricket Ground- Chennai.
Western Region won the toss and elected to field. Batting first, Northern Region did not manage to get a good start and lost some important wickets in early overs. However, Ajay Devenda, who came to bat on 4th position played a wonderful innings and smashed 66 runs off 52 balls with 4 boundaries and 4 sixes helped team reach at a decent score. Northern Region ended up at a competitive score of 157 runs at the end of 25 overs by losing 5 wickets. Pick of the bowlers was Ashok Cheriyar from Western Region, who picked 2 wickets in 5 overs giving 17 runs. While replying, Western Region started to fumble from early overs. Despite trying really well, players failed to stay strong against strong bowling attack from Northern Region. Highest scorer was Lalit Thakur with 31 runs. Most of the players were dismissed below the score of 20 and team collapsed making 128 runs in 22.5 overs. Almost all the bowlers of Northern Region performed well but pick of the lot was Ajay Devenda, who picked 2 wickets in just 1 over by giving 7 runs.
Northern Region registered a 29 run win over Western Region in the final of The All India AAI Inter-Zonal Cricket Tournament 2018.
