One of the most prestigious tournaments organized by The Cricket Association Of Bengal- CAB First Division Super League Championship 2017-18 was played between 26th June’18 to 19th July’18 at Kolkata.
Played at Eden Garden- Kolkata, an all-important final of this much celebrated tournament was a day-night test between Mohun Bagan A.C. and East Bengal Club on 18th and 19th July’18.
Mohun Bagan A.C. chose to bat first with an aim of capitalizing the opportunity to put up a big score for the final. However, Team failed to get a good start and lost some important wickets in early overs. Arindam Ghosh, who came to bat on 4th position took control of the match single handedly and made unbeaten 131 runs, which included 20 boundaries and 2 sixes. It was on the back of his timely 131 Mohun Bagan A.C. reached a total of 224 runs in their first innings.The other 2 players, who managed to reach at double digit scores were Sayan Shekhar Mandal and Writtick Chatterjee with 25 and 35 runs respectively. Arnab Nandi from East Bengal Club bowled extremely well and scalped 4 important wickets damaging the batting line up of Mohun Bagan A.C. badly. B.Amit and Susanta Das too performed well and picked 3 and 2 wickets respectively restricting the opponent from putting up a big score.
After a good bowling performance, East Bengal Club failed to prove their mettle in batting and closed 1st innings at the score of 158 runs. Despite trying really well, none of the players manage to stay on crease for long. Soham Ghosh was the highest run-getter with the score of 40 runs. Rajkumar Pal from Mohun Bagan A.C bowled exceptionally well by taking 4 wickets in 14 overs giving 31 runs. He was well assisted by Writtick Chatterjee and Nilkanth Das, who chipped in with 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Mohun Bagan A.C.started their 2nd innings with the lead of 66 runs and declared the innings at the score of 150/4 at the end of 2nd day. Manoj Tiwari was the highest scorer with unbeaten 71 runs.
Match was drawn but Mohun Bagan A.C. was declared as winners on the basis of 1st innings lead.
