One of the most prestigious tournaments of Goa- Goa Civil Services Cricket Tournament 2017 organized by Director of Sports & Youth Affair, Govt. of Goa was played between 8th May’18 to 22nd May’18.
46 teams from different government sectors participated in this tournament from which, the two finalist teams were Public Works Dept and Directorate of Accounts. The crucial final between these teams was played on 22nd May’18 at Binani Ground- Goa.
Electing to bat, Public Works Dept played a wonderful innings and posted 191 runs in 18 overs by losing 9 wickets. Team had a strong batting line with almost all the players contributing significantly for the final score. Siddesh Naik was the top scorer, who smashed 65 runs in 25 balls with 5 boundaries and 5 sixes. Other major contributors were Niraj Lotlekar and Shailesh S Naik, who added 36 and 27 runs respectively at fast pace. Pick of the bowlers was Akhil Shetye from Directorate of Accounts, who scalped 4 wickets in 4 overs.
While chasing, Directorate of Accounts tried really well but failed to score at required rate. Highest scorer was Pravin Sopte, who remained unbeaten at the score of 37 runs. Suresh Naik too played well and added 27 runs in 18 balls. However, remaining players failed to stay strong against effective bowling from Public Works Dept. Team ended up scoring 104 runs at the end of 18 over by losing 7 wickets. Naresh Parsekar from Public Works Dept was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets.
Public Works Dept registered a glorious 87 run win over Directorate of Accounts in the final of Goa Civil Services Cricket Tournament 2017.
