One of the most prestigious tournaments of Maharashtra Cricket Association- MCA Senior Invitation League Tournament 2017-18 was organized between 26th Mar.’18 to 31st May’18 at various locations of Maharashtra.
41 teams from different cities of Maharashtra participated in this tournament. The crucial final of this heavily followed tournament was played between Team Nashik and Poona Club on 20th May’18 at Theur Ground- Pune.
Team Nashik won the toss and elected to bat. They failed to score at good pace against effective bowling by Poona Club and collapsed at a meager score of 102 runs in first innings. Apart from Kunal Kothavade, who made 21 runs, rest of the players were dismissed in 10’s resulted in a low score. Akhade Omkar from Poona Club rattled the rivals with 6 wickets in 15 overs conceding 39 runs only, damaging entire batting line up of Team Nashik.
After an outstanding bowling display, Poona Club did not manage to give the same performance through bat. Team managed to put up only 105 runs at the end of their first innings, which was top scored by Rushikesh Sapkal with 38 runs. Samadhan Pangare and Satyajeet Bacchhav from Team Nashik shined as they bowled at a very low economy rate and scalped 5 wickets each restricting Poona Club from putting up a good score.
Despite trying really well, Team Nashik failed again in posting a good score. However, Shaikh Yaasar and Satyajeet Bacchhav played well and added 29 and 25 runs respectively contributing majorly in the score. Akhade Omkar from Poona Club striked again with his outstanding bowling and picked 6 wickets in just 8.4 overs resulted in early collapse of the opponent team. Team Nashik bundled up scoring 105 runs at the end of their 2nd innings.
Despite facing some early blows, Poona Club did a strong come back with bat and scored 103 runs in just 19.3 overs by losing 4 wickets. Captain Ajinkya Naik played an excellent innings and smashed unbeaten 51 runs leading his team towards final victory. He received a good support from the other end in form of Sangram, who made 27 runs off 29 balls.
Poona Club registered a comfortable 6 wickets win against Team Nashik in the final of MCA Senior Invitation League Tournament 2017-18.
Akhade Omkar from Poona Club was awarded as the player of the match.
